For years scientist tried to work out a way to combine animal DNA with human DNA, thus technically, creating the ultimate weapon. Many attempts were tested, and many failed...that is, until a successful test happened in America in 1935. However, the result was different to the one scientists expected. Instead of a fit and healthy man with the senses of a cheetah, they got something else. They got a humanoid cheetah – with the body structure of a man but with the physiology of a cheetah. In other words, the man was furry, complete with a tail and claws. Oddly enough, the man retained his human-like hands and intelligence. Greedy for power and fame, the scientists used him to do their dirty work.Years later, the scientists had amassed a variety of these creations and set about using them for their own personal gain. However, they were stopped by the American government, who at the time deemed this project vile and unholy. They shut the project down, taking animal-people with for “safe-keeping”. The scientists were devastated and destroyed what they could of their work, making sure that no one else could copy what they had done. In the events that followed, they set about leading quiet lives, not wishing to incur the government’s wrath again. However, before truly letting go, they managed to sneak into government property and released the animal-people, setting them free. That was the last anyone heard of the scientists.
In the year 2000, the American government had discovered the scientists’ research and decided to put it back into action. At first, since there wasn’t much use for these new beings, only ten were successfully made. However, when a terrorist bomber self-sacrificed himself, they put the operation into full throttle, stating that it was to “fight terrorism”, though they outright state this new operation to the general public, wanting it low-key and named it The Sanctuary, or Sanctuary for short. The government built a site in Colorado, where it was nice and open for the testing to take place. The previous ten were brought back and were used as examples to help make new creations. These creations were dubbed Spliced and were given new names based on their animal trait or something about the animal itself. People dubbed “Catchers” were then trained to recapture Spliced, in case they ever escaped. When this operation proved to be a success the Americans decided to help the other major countries gain Spliced by building similar sites in UK, France, Germany, Australia and Japan, and many others.
However, with like many things it became corrupted and the government began making a special unit for the Spliced within the army, keeping them separate from humans at all times. Disappearances of people began to emerge but the governments of the world covered this up with a believable story: a life-threatening virus. The disappearances became more frequent and some of the general public began to suspect that it wasn’t a virus that was making people disappear but...something else, they just didn’t know what.
The year is 2011 and the project is still on-going and people are still disappearing, however some Spliced have escaped Sanctuary - up to five iso spliced, ten mammals and five reptiles, with Catchers hot on their trail. Reports of break-outs in other countries have been relayed to the American government, and now security is tighter than ever back at Sanctuary. What will happen to those Spliced who have escaped, and what will happen when the general public find out?
